01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Choose a bold cup or one topped with whipped cream: at Impulse, the range of coffee styles makes choosing part of the pleasure. One visitor described the original strong coffee as full-bodied, while the Vienna coffee had a rich creaminess without losing its coffee flavour. The menu also features a strong blend, alongside single-origin coffees described as having Kilimanjaro’s pronounced acidity and rich body, the mellow character of Brazil Santos, and Mandheling’s full body and aroma. These tasting notes offer a useful guide, whether you prefer a mellow cup or one with more distinctive acidity or bitterness.

For something sweeter, there is Cold Mocha Java, made with plenty of chocolate and whipped cream, and Cinnamon Coffee, with cinnamon and whipped cream added to coffee. Cold Mocha Java is listed at ¥1,100, and Cinnamon Coffee at ¥850. Café Gloria, with brandy and whipped cream, and Irish Coffee, made with Irish whiskey and whipped cream, show the breadth of the coffee-based variations. Another visitor singled out the iced mocha as a favourite.

Toast makes an easy accompaniment to coffee, with savoury options such as pizza toast and egg toast, as well as chocolate toast for a sweeter pairing. One visitor ordered the chocolate toast and found its appearance striking, while also noticing the pizza toast at another table. The menu lists toast à la carte, as well as a set with pizza toast and a choice of blend coffee or blend tea—a handy option for a light meal.

Visitors report that smoking is allowed indoors; some also mention the jazz and counter seating. The smoke may not suit everyone, so consider this when deciding whether to visit.
